MaybeForYou knew that to get employees to really engage with the platform, it needed to encourage them in more ways than just promoting a healthy lifestyle. These hooks would increase the odds of accomplishment and building self-motivation that would lead to success for both employees and the project.

Overview

Lowe's, a North American retail home improvement company with over two thousand stores throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico was looking for a way to educate and promote healthy lifestyles to over 200,000 employees. Together with Summit Marketing, MaybeForYou was engaged to help bring their idea to reality.

Looking to build a solution that would resonate with employees, encourage participation, fit in with their day-to-day activities, and scale effectively across the vast array of user's devices, was no simple feat.

Lowe's also wanted to ensure the application accomplished two major objectives:

  1. Create a space where employees can learn about health and nutrition in 'bite-sized' chunks that were engaging and interactive.
  2. Provide an easy-to-use tool for tracking progress along the path to a healthier lifestyle.

Gamification Done Right

After talking with and shadowing users, it became apparent we’d need something to compel users to get started with the application. Gamification, a marketing technique to encourage user engagement, was identified as the perfect solution for creating a sense of friendly, encouraging competition and camaraderie that would get employees hooked on using the application.

By participating in monthly health awareness campaigns and logging information such as weight, food, and activity, employees earned points that could be redeemed for awards — ranging from water bottles to fitness devices to wellness retreats. As employees started participating to earn each rewards, they began to see and feel the positive effects of investing in a healthy lifestyle! Creating a positive loop that encouraged them to keep participating, learning, eating healthier, and becoming more active.

A Momentum-Creating Experience

Every element of the experience, from the micro-interactions with the application to the emotions a user felt by succeeding with improving their health, could only be designed because of the empathy we gained from understanding the user’s, their goals, and things that motivated them to get started on this journey.

The result is MyLifetrack, an application that was not only enthusiastically adopted by employees nationwide but also highly praised by the corporate world.

The success of the application has led to earning the program several awards in employee engagement, health, and fitness, including the Gold Winner for the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Award, the Excellence in the Workplace from the Tobacco Control Award, the Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Innovation Award, and the CDHC Superstar Integrated Care: Wellness & Disease Management Award.
