Designing A Digital Experience For A Highly Physical Product
As iPads started to gain traction, Mohawk had an idea that could condense a car trunk filled with carpet samples into a single device. By taking advantage of advances in mobile devices like the iPad, they could cut down on the materials salespeople needed to haul around, speeding up the time it took to get new products out into the field and providing better sales data to impact future design and manufacturing decisions.
This is where MaybeForYou came in, to help turn this idea into a reality. Starting with our Discover Phase, we spent time understanding both the needs of the organization and learning what a sales person’s typical day entailed. This provided us with the knowledge to figure out what features would actually be useful in the application and map out a solution that would best fit into the sales process.
Simplifying The Sales Process, Without Losing Physical Features That Matter
The final application allows sales representatives to use their iPads as a central part of the sales process. They’re able to work with customers to easily narrow down options based on floor type, color, pattern, cost, etc. and then quickly order samples to be delivered to a customer’s office within a few days. This helps employees turn around cost estimates much more efficiently, leading to more purchase orders being placed, faster. By integrating the application with Mohawk’s CRM and fulfillment systems, we also reduce the number of data entry errors that were common in their old systems.
And trust us when we tell you the application works! Due to an unfortunate miscommunication during a usability testing session, over seven pallets of carpet samples were shipped to our office, after their fulfillment team mistook our test orders for real ones!
